Film Wedding Photography

There’s something truly special about film photography…

Why Choose Film Wedding Photography?

I love taking photos with my digital camera. It is a fantastic tool and lets me capture the joy of your wedding day, but film offers something extra. Both mediums are beautiful, but in different ways!

Today we have instant access to everything but, film asks us to slow down. It brings a sense of anticipation, intention and trust, and, to me, that’s exactly what makes it so beautiful. Film photographs have a specific look; they have a softness to them, a dreamy quality… there’s a feel that makes them special.

The Timeless Look of Film Wedding Photography

Film photography embraces imperfection. Sometimes the images aren’t perfect, but sometimes that’s okay!  There’s no instant preview or checking the back of the camera. Just being present, trusting the process and waiting (sometimes weeks!) to see what’s been created. That anticipation is part of the magic. Film isn’t about perfection. It’s about atmosphere, emotion, and storytelling. It’s about letting moments unfold naturally and capturing them with care.

Film photographs age beautifully. Long after trends have changed, these images still feel relevant. They will still feel romantic, nostalgic, and quietly powerful - they truly are timeless. For couples who value artistry, texture and authenticity, film offers a truly beautiful addition to their wedding package.

How Film Wedding Photography Works

Film photography is offered as an additional layer to your wedding coverage, not a replacement for digital and not something designed to match it. Your digital images will document the day with consistency and reliability. Your film images will feel different and that contrast is intentional.

The film images stand on their own, with their own character and feel. I won’t edit my film or digital photographs to look the same. The film will be professionally developed and scanned, then delivered alongside your digital images as a separate, additional collection.

This approach is for couples who are drawn to the filmic, nostalgic look and want that extra something special on top of their digital coverage.

Wedding Film Photography - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Both film and digital are beautiful — just in different ways. Digital captures moments with consistency , clarity and precision. Film photography has a very different look and feel to digital. It’s softer, more organic, and embraces natural grain and subtle imperfections.

  • No — and that’s intentional. I don’t edit my film or digital images to look the same. Each medium is allowed to be what it is. Your film photographs will feel different to your digital images and I’ll give them their own dedicated section of your wedding gallery.

  • Film is shot intentionally and selectively, rather than in large volumes. The exact number can vary depending on the day, but the focus is always on quality, not quantity. Film coverage is about adding depth and variety, not replacing digital coverage. The total number will depend on the package you select.

  • Film photography is expensive…it involves additional costs, including purchasing film stock, professional development, and high-quality scanning.

  • Yes — and that’s part of what makes film what it is. Film photography is a physical, chemical process. Very occasionally, things can go wrong outside of anyone’s control, such as damaged film, development or scanning issues, or exposure variations. While this is rare, it’s an inherent part of shooting on film.

  • If a roll of film is lost, damaged, or rendered unusable during development or scanning, the cost of that film coverage will be refunded.

Digital coverage is always there to fully document your wedding day, and film is offered as an additional artistic layer rather than a guaranteed record of every moment.

  • I usually like to deliver the film photos alongside the digital images. However, film can sometimes take longer than digital. Film needs to be sent to a lab to develop and scan and this can take longer, especially during the height of wedding season. In the unlikely event that the film photos do take that bit longer at the lab, I’ll share your digital photos with you first and then your film shots once they’re ready.

  • Film photography is ideal for couples who value artistry over uniformity, who appreciate texture and imperfection, and who are drawn to photographs that feel expressive, nostalgic, and timeless.
